Finding Christ In Contemporary Music

“Breathe into me Holy Spirit, that all my thoughts may be holy. Move in me, Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Attract my heart, Holy Spirit, that I may love only what is holy. Strengthen me, Holy Spirit, that I may defend all that is holy. Protect me, Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy.”

I don’t know when it happened, but I have found life to be so much easier, when I started looking for our Lord everywhere. Before my conversion of heart began, I would never think to listen to music and ponder Jesus. Especially love songs and most all contemporary music. In that world I left behind, my selfishness would drive my thoughts to that of anyone but our Lord in most regards.I would hear a love song and think of who I was dating or wanted to date at the time.It was all about me. Now, it’s all about Him. I never thought to place that song on my lips and ponder of Our Lord singing it to all the souls he loves, or I to Him. To a limit that is. There is a lot of music lyrics out there these days, personally, I would never repeat.

The older love songs haven’t changed and in my thoughts, it all comes back to Him. He is love after all. When you knock, the door opens and its a beautiful place to be. Every love song ever written….

Just one in particular that moves me in such a way…

With you I can see past the lies and greed in this burned out city
With you I can run from the shell-shocked demons dancin’ in my head
You give me strength when my legs are tired
You feed my soul when I’m uninspired

With you I can speak in a voice that rings with love and mercy
With you I can stay no matter where the howlin’ wind of change may blow
I lie in bed and I watch you sleep
There is no dream that I would not keep with you – with you

There is no face that I love as much
There is no dream that I could not touch with you with you with you with you

With you I can love with a heat that defies explanation
With you I can sleep like an infant held up in his mother’s arms
I know you well and you know me too
There’s no hope so lost that it can’t be touched with you
