In 1523, just two years after the Aztec capital of Tenochitlan fell to Hernán Cortés and his Conquistadors, the first Roman Catholic missionaries arrivd to begin the religious conquest of Mexico.
Among their first converts was a man baptized with the Christian name Juan Diego. On the chilly morning of December 9, 1531, Juan Diego crossed the barren hill called Tepeyac to attend Mass. He was brought to a sudden halt by a blinding light and the sound of heavenly music. Before him appeared an astounding vision–a beautiful dark-skinned woman who, calling the Indian “my son”, declared herself to be the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ. She told Juan Diego it was her desire to have a church built on Tepeyac hill, and asked him to relay that message to Bishop Juan de Zumarraga.It was no easy task for the humble Indian to be granted an audience with the top prelate, but the persistent Juan Diego was finally admitted. The incredulous Bishop demanded that he be provided with some proof of the unlikely encounter. Confused and fearful, Juan Diego avoided Tepeyac for several days, but on December 12, while rushing to find a priest to attend a seriously ill uncle, he took a short cut across the hill. The Virgin once again appeared and Juan Diego told her of the Bishop’s request. The Virgin instructed him to pick roses from the usually barren and desolate hill and deliver them to Zumarraga as the sign.
Juan Diego gathered up the miraculous blossoms in his mantle and hurried off to complete his mission. Once again before the Bishop, he let the roses spill out before him. To the wonder of all assembled, a perfect image of La Virgen of Guadalupe was revealed emblazoned on Juan Diego’s cloak.
Juan Diego’s mantle, carefully preserved in the new Basilica, has been subjected to extensive analysis over the years. Experts have authenticated the fabric as dating to the 16th century, but have been unable to determine the type of pigment from which the image was rendered. It seems doubtful that in the Colonial era in Mexico human hands were capable of creating a portrait of its exquisite nature. It is even doubtful it can be done in Mexico today. Most wonderous of all, after 465 years, the image of the Virgen de Guadalupe remains clearly imprinted on the miraculous cloak without visible signs of deterioration.
By order of the Bishop, a small church was soon constructed on the site designated by the Virgin. Skeptics are quick to point out the unlikely coincidence of the Virgin’s appearance on Tepeyac, the very site of an Aztec temple dedicated to Tonatzin (earth godess, mother of the gods and protectress of humanity) which had been devastated by order of Bishop Zumarraga.
The original church was replaced by a larger structure built in 1709. The Miracle of Guadalupe was officially recognized by the Vatican in 1745. The second sanctuary was declared a Basilica in 1904. A new Basilica, of modern design and enormous capacity, was dedicated in October of 1976. This is found in the northern section of present-day Mexico City.
In this and other churches dedicated to La Virgen de Guadalupe throughout the nation, millions of the faithful will gather December 12 for processions, prayers, songs, dances, and fireworks to honor “La Reina de México” (the Queen of Mexico).
In essence, the Spanish conquest of 1519-1521 destroyed the core of Aztec religion-the cult of warfare and human sacrifice. The Aztecs were no longer able to feed the sun, yet the universe survived, and Huitzilopochtli was discredited. Aztec religion had lost its focus by 1531.
The Aztecs practiced human sacrifice on a wholesale scale.
We must remember that the Aztecs offered annually at least 20,000 men, women and children in human sacrifice to their gods. In 1487, just in a single 4 days long ceremony for the dedication of a new temple in Tenochtitlan, some 80,000 captives were killed in human sacrifice.

St Joseph Cathedral, yesterday at the close of the Tour of the Seven Church walk. You can see, it was a successful day! The above photo is all the participants in the walk from Our Lady of the Rosary to St Joseph in Eucharist Procession which ended with Benediction.
Yesterdays Tour to the Seven Churches, Fortnight For Freedom prayer walk in opposition to the HHS Mandate was put together by the Brothers of the Little Oratory and myself in very little time, proving to be one great blessing for our Lord. I never expected this many souls to participate. Than you Lord Jesus Christ and Mama Mary. It was a miraculous day! We began at St. Patrick Catholic Church in San Diego at 7:30 AM for Mass. Our walkers were blessed and off we went.
We covered 10.75 miles of San Diego. Walking through neighborhoods with many diverse groups of people.
Setting off from St. Patrick’s in the North Park area of San Diego and headed to St. Didacus Catholic Church on the other side of North Park.
A few blocks from St. Didacus, even the fire trucks were bowing to our Holy Mother.
I have to say, there was one amazing woman on this walk. She walked the entire distance and is eight months pregnant. She finished the entire walk without any complications, I am happy to say. May God bless that family and protect all the unborn.
From St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church we were off to St. Vincent De Paul on the other side of the Mission Hills area of San Diego.

Off again! This time to Immaculate Conception in Old Town. Something I do have to share. Rather then walking the entire distance, We needed someone to carry water, people and supply’s who ran into trouble on the walk and that person was me. I ended up driving the entire route but keeping watch like a guardian angel. Being a runner with water and serving these fantastic souls. What was special, is not having ANY problem finding a parking place at any stop! Divine Providence is miraculous thing! Thank you Lord!

In EVERY church we came to, we were able to stop in most of them and pray in front of the Tabernacle and were greeted by many Catholic Priests at every stop.

After leaving Immaculate Conception we headed down San Diego Street to El Campo Santo Cemetery.
Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let your perpetual light shine upon them. May they and all the holy souls in purgatory rest in peace. Amen

When we arrived at Our Lady of The Rosary in Little Italy, we were met with more participants. I had never been inside of the church and found it just BEAUTIFUL!

For the most part of the walk, we had about 20 to 30 active souls for the entire journey. When we arrived at OLR, close to 200 souls were added.
Were had a few moments to catch our breath, rest and take it easy. The Brothers of the Little Oratory were able to put on their red robes and get ready for the last leg of the walk. We prayed inside before leaving.
As we left, I was in awe. The length of the procession and the amount of souls participating could have stretched the five blocks to St Joseph Cathedral.

And a big Thank You to all! May God bless us and have mercy on us all! May our Leaders hearts be converted back to the understanding that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. May this nation end the practice of abortion immediately and understand that all life is the most precious gift from God. May this nation wake up and run back home to her first Love, being our Lord Jesus Christ. I ask this through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to the Sacred Heart of my Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Just a general observation today that I can not help but ponder.
Upon attending mass this morning and seeing the wonderful display of Our Lady of Guadalupe inside our church, I was brought to question something. Something so sad I can not help but mention it. If I am missing something here, or anyone finds fault with what I am about to say, I am sorry. Forgive me, and help to change the way I am seeing this today.
In 1531 a “Lady from Heaven” appeared to a humble Native American at Tepeyac, a hill northwest of what is now Mexico City.
She identified herself as the ever virgin Holy Mary, Mother of the True God for whom we live, of the Creator of all things, Lord of heaven and the earth.
She made a request for a church to be built on the site, and submitted her wish to the local Bishop. When the Bishop hesitated, and requested her for a sign, the Mother of God obeyed without delay or question to the Church’s local Bishop, and sent her native messenger to the top of the hill in mid-December to gather an assorment of roses for the Bishop.
After complying to the Bishop’s request for a sign, She also left for us an image of herself imprinted miraculously on the native’s tilma, a poor quality cactus-cloth, which should have deteriorated in 20 years but shows no sign of decay 479 years later and still defies all scientific explanations of its origin.
It apparently even reflects in Her eyes what was in front of her in 1531.
Her message of love and compassion, and her universal promise of help and protection to all mankind, as well as the story of the apparitions, are described in the “Nican Mopohua”, a 16th century document written in the native Nahuatl language.
There is reason to believe that at Tepeyac Mary came in her glorified body, and her actual physical hands rearranged the roses in Juan Diego’s tilma, which makes this apparition very special.
As I arrived at mass this morning, in the courtyard were many tents set up and scores of souls celebrating the feast day set for tomorrow. Vendors were selling statues and other items, including lots of food in booths. It was a carnival atmosphere. Many souls gathering together to eat, drink and celebrate. Its a feast! But where are they when our Lord is calling to them. Granted I am sure Mama Mary is honored, but at the price of leaving her Son, our Lord unattended, I can only ask for forgiveness and see no need to partake of this sort of feast.
Yesterday, I was saddened because I had received many calls from souls sitting in our Blessed Sacrament chapel, who had no one to release them. For the past few weeks, since Thanksgiving, many of our Adorers have stopped attending and we have been left with gaping holes in our Adoration schedule, in where the same souls sit with our Lord, in prayer, for several hours longer then the one hour they had signed up for. Keep in mind, our parish is over 70% Hispanic, but there has been a huge lack of response to get the over four thousand parishoners to participate in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
When Our Lady of Guadalupe first requested that a “church” be built in 1531, one was built. The “Church” is the place to worship her Son. The “Church” is where holy mass, the True Feast, is celebrated. From the Holy Mass, we attain Our Lord in complete humility in the Blessed Sacrament, and for the past few weeks, He is being left alone in the “Church”, His mother, our Holy Mother, requested to be built.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, through your intercession, I beg of you to ask our Lord to bring all God’s children back to the “Church” you requested to be built. To worship our Lord, to love God with our entire heart, mind, strength, body and soul. To place Him above all, including our own wants and needs. Abba Father forgive us and wake us up to Your needs, Most Merciful. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen
